Faces of Jackson County Class of 2020: Joey Santana

Meet Joey Santana! Joey is a senior at Jefferson High School and will attend Augusta University in the fall to study dentistry. We want to congratulate Joey and his family on his upcoming graduation and best wishes in the future.

Question: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
A: “My family and I moved here in search of better living conditions and education. My parents both came from Dominican Republic and moved here in search of a better life for their children. because of my parents made sacrifices me and my brothers have been able to grow up and be a part of this wonderful community that is Jackson County.”

Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: “I’m attending Augusta University to get my biology major and move on to dental school. I plan on becoming a dentist and serving my community in the Atlanta area.”

Q: What are two of your favorite restaurants in our community?
A: “I love Zaxby’s. It’s a go-to-spot.”

Q: How long have you lived in our community?
A: “I’ve been living in Jackson county for approximately 14 years.”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
A: “I have to say my best friend Joshua Abramchaev it’s not only inspired me to keep pushing during the hard times, but to also take the time to value my current state in life.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
A: “I would go to Japan. Japan is a beautiful place with so much culture and food. I would love to go there and experience all of the culture with my loved ones.”

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
A: “’The Walking Dead,’ ‘Naruto,’ and ‘Breaking Bad.’”

Q: What advice would you give to people?
A: “Times can be tough and people can be tougher. However don’t let rough times allow you to not appreciate what’s right in front of you. Make memories and hold those you love tight.”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “I’d love to make my parents so proud.”

Q: What is your go to band / singer when you cant decide what to listen to?
A:  “I don’t listen to bands.”

Q: What is something you will do as soon as this COVID-19 is over?
A: “Plan a trip with all of my cousins to the beach and stay at my brother’s house.”

Q:If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
A: “I think I would meet with my girlfriend of almost two years at Gringo’s.”

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community?
A: “We have so much pride and we always strive for better. And when failure occurs, nobody’s pointing fingers.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in five to 10 years?
A: “I see myself out of dental school and entering the workforce.”

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I get emotional when I think of leaving off to college.”

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
A: “The Appalachian trail up in Pennsylvania.”

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
A: “May is my favorite. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. And the best day in the calendar is my birthday of course.”

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A: “Jefferson High School.”

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
A: “My parents.”

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
A: “Apple is probably my favorite scent. Not too strong and not too light.”

Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: “My family, My friends, and Chipotle.”
