Meet John Canupp.

Please tell us a little bit about your family.

A: “I have been married to my beautiful wife, Karen for 22 years. She is an optometrist in Winder. We have two awesome children, Lilly Grace (18) and Mitchell (15). Lilly Grace will be starting college in a few weeks, and Mitchell is a sophomore in high school. We live in Jefferson, GA.”

Q: Please tell us about your current career. What do you love most about what you do?

A: “I started selling real estate this year, and I truly do not see it as a job. The thing I like the most is helping people find the place that they can call “home”.”

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: “I have always had the bug for houses, remodelling, and seeing the creative things that builders/designers have done. I have owned many of my own houses that my wife and I remodelled, and I have also been involved in flipping several houses. Over the years I have lived vicariously through my friend and veteran realtor, Brad Abernathy. I have watched him help others buy and sell houses. I finally took the leap and got my real estate license.”

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in your community?

A: “Local Station, Talmo Market Grill, Cream & Shuga, Cotton Calf, Sugar & Spice”

Q: How long have you lived or worked in your community?

A: “16 years”

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in your community?

A: “A.G. Mitchell, my wife’s grandfather who has passed. A.G. knew more about this community than anyone I have met here. He told the best stories and was a walking historian about Jefferson/Jackson County.”

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A: “Any beach (Family), Ireland/Scotland (Golf) and somewhere out west (Hunting).”

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

A: “High Fidelity (Movie), Lonesome Dove (Mini-series), NCIS (TV Show).”

Q: What advice would you give to people?

A: “It doesn’t cost anything to be kind. It’s actually quite fulfilling.”

Q: What is something in your bucket list?

A: “Hunting trip out west and a golf trip to Scotland.”

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?

A: “80’s Rock”

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about your community?

A: “Mitchell Hardware”

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

A: “Robert Duvall. He is one of my favorite actors and has played some of my favorite characters, especially Captain Augustus McCrae in “Lonesome Dove”. Mr. Duval seems to be a genuine, honest, down to earth person. I think he would like a nice steak from Cotton Calf.”

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

A: “The people make our community great!”

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

A: “Still living in Jefferson, helping people find and sell their homes, and bringing our community closer together through “The Faces of Jackson County”.”

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: “I have one attached and one unattached ear lobe.”

Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: “Family, Love, Peace”

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?

A: “Anywhere in the woods.”

Q: If you were cast in a movie and could choose your co-star, who would it be?

A: “I think “the Rock” and I could star in a modern day version of “Twins”.”

Q: Favorite month? Holiday? And best single day on the calendar?

A: “November. Christmas. Easter.”

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A: “Being blessed with a great family and friends.”

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

A: “My kids. I hate letting them down.”

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?

A: “Fresh cut grass and the woods in fall.”

Q: Who would you want to play you in a movie about your life?

A: “Jack Black. I feel like he would “get me”.”

Q: What is the best thing about being a part of our real estate group?

A: “The group is so knowledgeable, helpful, and welcoming. They have guided and helped me since the first day. They are the best!”

Q: What are 1 or 2 things you will share that have been marked off your bucket list?

A: “Owning hunting land, traveling with my wife, seeing my kids grown spiritually.”
